Pastor Steve McGarry
Pastor Steve McGarry graduated from Yankton College, Yankton S.D. in 1971 with a major in political science and with minors in economics, theology, speech and theater. After considering attending The University of South Dakota School of Law, he decided instead to marry and start a family and settled in Massachusetts. He began a seventeen year career in manufacturing management, where he worked for a major valve company in Worcester, Massachusetts. He became a specialist in new plant and product start-up and a turn-around specialist of non-efficient manufacturing units.
Steve moved to SE Florida and married his wife JoAnn in 1995. He founded and operated his own company and together they ran their business until December 2007. Between them they have six children and eighteen grandchildren, all of which reside in Massachusetts.
Steve came to Christ in 1999 while taking the first Alpha course given at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Stuart FL. Soon after, he began to hear a call to the priesthood.
This caused him to embark on a long journey of discernment. His life as he knew it was changed forever, as his new call from God became Steve's driving force.
Steve was ordained to the Transitional Diaconate in the Anglican Mission in the Americas. He was ordained by The Rt. Rev. John Miller III at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in May of 2008. On December 10th 2009, Bishop John Miller ordained Steve to the priesthood.
Besides his passion for Jesus and His Gospel message, Steve and his wife JoAnn are avid golfers. Steve continues with the challenge of someday beating JoAnn in competition, who by the way, is a club champion. Steve’s best recorded score in club completion was a 77.
Steve's hope is that a lifetime of overcoming adversities and welcoming challenges will be blessed and used by God. He also hopes to glorify His name to those who do not yet know Him.
Amazing Grace is also served by our deacon, Leonard Burton. Leonard is originally from Southern Indiana, and was raised in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. His life background and education made him a perfect fit as a Deacon in the Church. Leonard has a passion for seeing Amazing Grace grow as a parish, and have a vital and unmistakable impact in the Treasure Coast communities we are privileged to serve. Leonard, and his loving wife, Sierra, reside with their two twin boys in Port Saint Lucie.
Our Bishop is Rt. Rev. Robert (Bob) Biermann. Bob serves as the missionary Bishop for the Reformed Anglican Church. Bob spent his early years in the broadcast industry, coming into ministry later in life. Bishop Biermann and his wife, Lori, divide their time between Port Saint Lucie and North East Georgia.
